Getting around a hanging problem

There are some file reading/writing problems with FireFox.

So sometimes it's just showing a waiting icon without showing any pictures.

Not really knowing the cause now, but you can avoid this by Right click FoxSaver icon=>Options...=>Choose Photos=>"Browse cache directory", and remove all files there.

Dear users, Very sorry!
When doing some maintenance, one folder was accidentally deleted. So all your icons, and club's icons, are gone.

Poor us didn't request backup service from the hosting company. So the icons are permanently deleted.

Very sorry for the inconvenience. But all you need to do now is to upload your icons again.

Copyrighted Pictures

According to Online Copyright Infringement Liability Limitation Act (OCILLA):

If an infringement has occurred a copyright holder may send a written notification of claimed infringement to the designated agent. This must include the following (512(c)(3)(A)(i-vi)):

(i) A physical or electronic signature of a person authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.

(ii) Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed, or, if multiple copyrighted works at a single online site are covered by a single notification, a representative list of such works at that site.

(iii) Identification of the material that is claimed to be infringing or to be the subject of infringing activity and that is to be removed or access to which is to be disabled, and information reasonably sufficient to permit the service provider to locate the material.

(iv) Information reasonably sufficient to permit the service provider to contact the complaining party, such as an address, telephone number, and, if available, an electronic mail address at which the complaining party may be contacted.

(v) A statement that the complaining party has a good faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.

(vi) A statement that the information in the notification is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, that the complaining party is authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.

Quite some users don't have facebook account to login. So We spent some time to create the user system, and don't rely on Facebook any more.

Thanks for all of the comments and suggestions! We have been working on the website and improving FoxSaver. We may have forgotten to answer several comments, but we believe we listened and have fixed most of bugs.

We actually added a new feature: Search with a picture! OK, it's not really search via a picture, but search alongside a picture. We will show a picture from FoxSaver sources( be it from FoxSaver website, RSS feed, or your local disk pictures ) in the empty space left by Google's search page!

Let us know if you want any feature, or want any bugs fixed!

Remember to share your pictures! We like pictures that's generally nice, no manga, porn, personal stuff for now.

For now, pictures from first-time recommenders will be reviewed to get listed. If you are a good recommender, you will get your pictures automatically listed later.

Also, please let us know whether you like the Facebook account requirement. We use it to minimize spams, and encourage real users. We may setup a true FoxSaver user account system later, depending on feedbacks from you!

FoxSaver 2.1 Released!

FoxSaver 2.1 is released!

This is should be the best and cleanest code ever produced.

One major improvement is that we have tested many Media RSS feeds on sources other than flickr. So if you want to add some RSS feeds that doesn't work, please let us know!

Another major improvement is that we should haven avoided all future extension conflicts. We used some public library, and found it's conflicting with other extensions. Previously we didn't really know what went wrong, until one user, Aly, who clearly identified one extension. And we got into the extension's source code, found the conflicting library. We have put a namespace for all of our source code. So the problem should be gone. If it ever happens, please do let us know!

And please blog about us! We are thinking about "User Recommended Pictures". If you want to be the first several users, please blog about us and send us your blog to "foxsaver at gmail.com". We will send you the registration link when the website is ready!

If you like FoxSaver, or hate it, please let us know! We want to improve it!

FoxSaver 2.0 Released!

We made great process on this release!

First, you can view your own pictures via Media RSS!
So if you have an online album, you can view it on every computer you have FoxSaver installed!
You can install FoxSaver on your parents' computer, fill in your RSS URL, then they can see your pictures without doing anything! If you update your online album, they will see it! However, only Flickr is well tested now.

Secondly, the images are cached. So each day, you only need to download new pictures once.
Can not be more lean and efficient than that.

Thirdly, many small UI tweaks.

Idle minutes can be changed without restart.
Sidebar can be optionally hided.
Local directory can be directly changed.
Do not start in minimized mode.

This release fixed errors that causes extension conflicts. Also added options to hide the status bar and foxsaver logo. The sidebar in fullscreen mode is also hided.

We made great process on this release, after some really hard work!

You can view your own pictures!!! The pictures currently need to be on local hard disk! Later release will read your RSS feeds. It's also very memory efficient. Previously we delayed this feature because FireFox keep all the pictures in memory. By some low-level programming, we released all the memory cleanly. There is no memory leak.

What's more, FoxSaver is much more efficient, minimizing memory usage and network activities. When starting up, FoxSaver won't do any work except a simple timer. No other CPU/memory/network resources will be spent on FoxSaver unless you have idled Firefox long enough to start FoxSaver.

We are working hard and making great progress!

The released version sometimes repeats the same pictures because of slow network. The new version will cache images more smartly.

We also added slideshowing your own directory! But, somehow we are having difficulty to release the memory when you have hundreds or thousands of pictures. So, we will randomly select 50 of local images for now. If you have any clue to avoid images in the memory, please help!

Please be patient, we will release FoxSaver 1.3 this Monday or Tuesday!

After one week's hard work, we have re-engineered most part of the code. New features include:

User can control display time.
Options to avoid starting in video sites, like youtube.com, video.google.com.
User can turn off special effects to save CPU usage.
Avoid multiple FoxSaver tabs issue.
Avoid possible memory leak.
Avoid starting in popup windows.

We are also working on new features, especially on adding new sources of pictures like flickr, and also pictures from your own hard drive.

FoxSaver Usage:

If FireFox is minimized, FoxSaver won't try to start.
If the window is a pop-up, FoxSaver won't try to start, to avoid annoying ads.
Try several FoxSaver at the same time!
If there are several FireFox windows, FoxSaver will not try to go to fullscreen.

Sumbit Pictures:

Right Click on any picture you like, and "Recommend it to FoxSaver".
The site is in very beta mode. Please bear with bugs.

When I want to choose pictures under my Linux Ubuntu I can't choose any jpg because it is disabled to select. What is wrong? The problem is that the selection is for selecting directories, not a single specific image file.
Some of the photos are so extroordinary, I'd love to access them separately. Currently the images are cached. Just use the "Tools"->"FoxSaver"->"Options..."->"Choose Photos"->"Browse Cache Directory"
to see all the pictures.
How to uninstall? In FireFox, follow "Tools"->"Add-ons"->"FoxSaver"->"Uninstall". But please drop us a comment telling us why you don't like FoxSaver. We really want to hear your criticisms.
What are those "Media RSS URLs" for and how do they work exactly? How can I use them? Media RSS is one kind of RSS format, which basically contains a list of pictures. There are some RSS feeds on FoxSaver.com website also. You can copy and paste the URL to the field, and those pictures will be shown.
What is that webpage URL and how can I use that? The webpage URL should points to a web page, that will show up when FireFox is idle, in stead of starting the FoxSaver slideshow.
Is there any possibility to find or better copy the url of the current
picture to the clipboard? The "i" button will direct you to the FoxSaver website, which should have enough information for you. For local pictures, well, we can add the local URL later.
Is it possible to have more than one picture folder on the local harddisk activated at the same time? Not at this time. Seems kind of complicated to do. You can easily switch directory by using "Choose Pictures..." when right click on the FoxSaver icon from the statusbar. If you have multiple directories, why not put those directory under one parent directory, and you can set the directory to this parent directory. All pictures will be listed and displayed.
May be it would be also interesting to have a quick mood switch with
different folder selection? Well, kind of similar to last question. You can use "Choose Pictures..." to change the directory.
Doesn't work with NoScript pluggin? The latest NoScript vers. 1.8.8.5 no longer blocks FoxSaver when run with default settings, but at least with unchecked box *Forbid IFRAME*, which is on tab 'Plugins' in NoScript Options window. I can check most of the 'block'-boxes, I only have to leave Forbid IFRAME unchecked - for both versions of FF, both Win2k and WinXP.
